Hello. My name is Jon Mooallem. I'm in the process of redoing my website.
I am a Writer at Large for the New York Times Magazine, to which I've been contributing since 2006. My new book is called THIS IS CHANCE! It's about the 1964 Great Alaska Earthquake and radio broadcaster Genie Chance. (You may have heard about it on The Daily...?) I'm very proud of it; people seem to think it's good company in the scrambled, disrupted world in which we're living. It was named a best book of 2020 by Amazon, BuzzFeed and Brainpickings. Please buy a copy.
My last book, WILD ONES, was chosen as a best book of 2013 by The New York Times Book Review, The New Yorker, NPR’s Science Friday and Canada’s National Post among others.
Here's almost everything I've written.
I also created The WALKING Podcast, which is (improbably) very successful. I’m also Writer at Large for Pop-Up Magazine, a “live magazine,” performed on stage, a contributor to This American Life, a former columnist at Wired and lots of other things. I’ve frequently talked about my reporting on radio and television shows (like Fresh Air, Radiolab, and the Colbert Report) and once spoke at TED. Occasionally, I collaborate on live storytelling and music projects with members of the Decemberists. THIS IS CHANCE! is based on our last collaboration.
YOU CAN EMAIL ME THIS WAY. Or find me on Twitter, which I hope to stop using one day.
My literary agent is Jin Auh at the Wylie Agency.
My agent for film and television is Jason Richman at UTA.
The publicist at Random House for THIS IS CHANCE! is Karen Fink.
I'm from New Jersey. I lived in San Francisco for a long time. Now I live on Bainbridge Island, next to Seattle. I look like this:

Thank you.
